Twin civil lawsuits filed in federal court in New Jersey on Tuesday and California on Friday allege a decades spanning conspiracy between Germany’s largest automakers. BMW AG, Volkswagen AG, Audi, Porsche and Daimler AG are accused of colluding to delay new automotive technologies, fix costs, and rig supplier contracts in violation of Federal antitrust laws. The suits also allege that the companies engaged in a conspiracy to limit development of certain technologies, including emission controls. The tacit agreement allegedly lead to the creation of the emission defeat devices used by Volkswagen to cheat on emissions tests.
Volkswagen is currently under federal investigation for its efforts in using devices designed to cheat federal emissions requirements. (Report by Bloomberg.com)
